It's a small world after all

Yreka, CA-- Blog Epilog

Monday evening March 10th I had just the left the Shell station on Main Street in Yreka next to the McDonald's and across the street from the Black Bear Restaurant. When I was standing on the corner trying to figure out where I was going to next on this great adventure and legal working vacation I am having in Yreka, CA.

In the distance I saw these three people pushing a car that was smoking from under the hood. They were pushing into the parking lot by the Black Bear Restaurant. And from where I was standing it looked like it might have caught on fire. But I was not sure. I headed in that direction as fast as I could but the traffic light on that corner was not on my side as I kept pushing the walk button, but it seemed like forever before it was going to change and if I was going to get over there fast enough to see if there was something I could do to help.

As soon as I crossed the street I headed to the rear area of the Black Bear Restaurant where they were. When I walked up Ed was on his cell phone trying to call someone to find out where the nearest auto parts was because the car had over heated and they did not have any more anti-freeze. Ed's first question to me as I was walked up was, "Do you know where the nearest auto parts store is that is open?" I told Ed, "No, I didn't but Wal-Mart was up the street on the other side of McDonald's in the shopping center."

Ed and his friend who I forgot to write down his name then headed to Wal-Mart and they left Charles behind to keep an eye on the car. Charles and I began a making small talk by me mentioning to Charles that Charles was my middle name. And then Charles went on to mention that he had just moved to Oregon with his whole family and they had moved from Redd Bluff. I then said, "Redd Bluff? And he confirmed it by saying "yeah".

I then asked Charles if he knew someone by the name of Lanie in Redd Bluff and Charles said he knew not only Lanie but Woffie too. Wow! It is a small world after all. After I discovered that Charles knew my friend Lanie who when she lived in Tulelake helped me when I needed to pay someone to give me a break to do shopping or other other things when I was taking care of my Mom 24/7 on B Street back in Jan 2004 to Oct 2005. Before Mom and I moved to Alturas and I was a substitute teacher for Modoc Unified School District, but they had to call me the day before so I could find someone to watch my mom, that way I could get a break by being a substitute teacher for a day. Charles said he would do that as soon as he could. I mentioned to Charles the only Internet access I have right now on my vacation in Yreka is the Yreka Library or the Yreka Community Resource Center Y.C.R.C. on the corner of Broadway and Miner Street in Yreka, CA.

In the meantime as Charles and I are having a conversation a young man by the name of Austin appears and wants to know if everything is OK as he saw the car smoking too. But Austin needed to go to the restroom first, as that was what he told his grandmother while they were waiting for the Stage Bus to take them to the other side of town, downtown Yreka and it costs $1.75 from Wal-Mart to downtown Yreka on the Stage Bus or the same amount from downtown Yreka to Wal-Mart Monday-Friday.

Austin and I them began to get to know each other and now Austin and I were having a conversation as Charles was still waiting for Ed and his friend to get back from Wal-Mart with the anti-freeze they needed for the car. They were heading to Weed when it broke down, and from what I understand they needed to meet someone there that needed to meet up but were late now and that the car had over heated several times on their trip.

While Austin was chatting with me he forgot that he told his grandmother that he was going to the restroom and he forgot that or he did not think about her getting worried about him as all grandmothers or parents do with their children. After Austin and I had broken the ice with each other and began to share different things about our selves as people do when they meet for the first time.

In the distance was this elderly woman who looked really upset and she spotted Austin and let him know how upset she was and worried because he had not returned to the Stage Bus stop after telling her he was just going to the restroom and would be right back. That is what he told his grandmother Nida. Nida then mentioned for Austin to hurry up and head back to the Stage bus stop as the Bus was due any minute now. That was about 7:30 PM and the Stage Bus was due to be at the Bus Stop at 7:40 PM heading to downtown Yreka, CA.

Austin and I exchanged information so we could meet up again sometime in the future or the next time Austin and I crossed paths. Austin then left and headed to meet back up with his grandmother.

I stood there for a second or two then decided to go over and introduce myself to Austins grandmother. So I asked Ed if they would mind keeping an eye on my Homeless Shopping Cart for a few minutes while they were still trying to get the car started again.

I then headed to the Stage Bus stop to introduce myself to Austin's grandmother, that way if I did call Austin and ask to talk to Austin Nida would at least know who I was and I would not be this stranger calling her grandson on the phone.

I introduced myself and in the meantime before I got there Austin told her about me too that I did the local news for Tulelake and that I was up here Homeless while working on my legal case and hearing on March 20th, 2014.

Nida then had time enough to mention that tonight at March 11th there is going to be a meeting at the Y.C.R.C., the same place I am at right now writing this blog in. And that the meeting tonight is going to be with a group that will be discussing Homelessness in Yreka and how to get more services for the Homeless in Yreka, as there is very little for the homeless here in Yreka and I can attest to that as reality as I am living proof and know first had what very little is available for the Homeless in Yreka and any kind of shelters, none exist. Not presently, and that is part of what the meeting tonight is all about at 5:30 PM but people will have to meet by the rear door off of the alley to get in to the meeting tonight. And those of you from Yreka and have the time be sure and come down and join us at the meeting tonight and I will write an article tomorrow as I report what happens at tonight's meeting at the rear of the building of the Yreka Community Resource Center and I will meet up with Austin and his grandmother once again at tonight's meeting.
