Two Sides to a Story... (Part One)

Yreka, CA-- Article Log

This morning I believe I met one of the kids that laid down the coins heads up at the Chevron on Feb 24th in the evening. But I think I met him this morning again and his name is Brandon.

I was standing still on the side walk when the young man was on his way to school this morning and he saw me and looked at me (he saw me with my homeless shopping cart) and asked me. "Do you need any money (as he was reaching for his little wallet in his back pocket)? I said, "No, thank you!". I then said, "that was sweet of you." And he said, "No problem". I then asked him, "What is your name and what grade of school are you in? As he was walking away towards his school. He said his name was Brandon and that he was in the 6th grade.

As he was further away his last comments were, "Peace Out" as he turned around and gave me the peace sign. How cute and sweet for a young man to have such a good heart to see an older person like me on the streets and yet he was willing to give someone his lunch money to try and help a homeless person on the streets. But I also mentioned to him thanks for the offer but I did not want him to give me his lunch money and that is when he said again, "No biggie". How sweet and his parents have taught him well.

Now back to the blog that was written when I returned to Tulelake back in late February before I came back here on the 3rd of March and where I have been since the evening I was dropped off here in Yreka, CA.

It was about 7:30 PM at the Chevron on February 24th, 2014 near the exit ramp for Redding, CA. All of sudden I noticed there were a group of kids while I was sitting on the bench on the outside of the Chevron near the cashiers window area. They came out and wanted to lay down the change they had left and leave it for a homeless person to pick up.

But they coins had to be placed heads up for the luck they wanted the coins to have for the person who picked them up. And Jim the clerk who works at the Chevron can verify that he saw the kids place the down coins too. The made it point to be known to each of them that the coins had to be placed heads up. It was dime, a nickel, and three or four pennies.

As I was sitting there on the bench outside the Chevron with my sign

"Need Ride,
Tulelake
A peace sign "Thanks" and then a happy

One of the older kids (which now I believe was Brandon that I saw and met on his morning on his way to school). Brandon noticed me on the bench and said to me at the time after noticing me sitting there on the bench and that I looked like a homeless person. Brandon then said, "I will go and pick them up for you." And I said, "That's OK, I will do it." Then all three of the kids left and I presume heading for their homes.

Then I went over and picked them up the nineteen cents they had laid down heads up for the for the person who ever picked them up would have a good luck. As I had no money at the time and no way to any from my checking account, as my account is in the negative and I will explain that some other time.

While sitting there I was getting real tired and falling asleep and I thought to myself at the time. What is the point of trying to get a ride at this hour of the night with it being so late in the evening. I might then get stuck somewhere out there in the dark and cold. And it was real cold at the time. So I decided to head back to my undisclosed and sleep in that spot for yet another night. And that's exactly what I did do.
