2014 STIP STREET PROJECT

Tulelake, CA— If you have not noticed yet, you soon will. The City of Tulelake has started what is known as the 2014 (STIP) Street Project.

According to Brett Nystrom Director of Public Works for the City of Tulelake “Rocky Mountain Construction will begin working in our area.” Which they now have begun beginning with the information listed below:

Brett goes on to say, “Streets may be closed, but only for the day and re-opened as soon as possible in the afternoon. If possible please park your vehicles in the alleys, if you need to come and go, as this will help any confusion on what to do. If grinding is done in your area, you may need to keep windows and doors closed because the dust levels will be increasing. Paving overlays should be done as soon as possible, weather permitting.”

Approximately 2 years in the planning for what is just now beginning to happen. Hank Ebinger the former Director of Pubic works began the project along with Jeremy Morris. Then, after Hank retired as the Director of Public Works and Brett was hired and who became the present Director of Public Works. Jeremy and Brett continued to work towards the goals of getting the grants necessary to begin and complete the projects on their agenda.

From the contract agreement, “The 2014 STIP Street Project consists of: Approximately 1,300 S.F. of concrete sidewalk/driveway construction, 160 L.F. of concrete curb/gutter, approximately 5,000 S.Y. of asphalt concrete repair/recondition, 1,765 tons of hot mix asphalt overlay and leveling, approximately 200 Tons of shoulder rock, storm drainage infrastructure, and all related work for the project to be completed.”

Adkins Engineering and Rocky Mountain Construction were awarded the bid from the agenda of the Tulelake City Council on January 21, 2014 and the review and expectation of contract on February 18, 2014 agenda. Brett and Jeremy worked hard together coming up with the plans for what is now beginning to be seen in Tulelake from the STIP grant the City of Tulelake was granted.

The State and Federal government combined offer a grant for small disadvantaged cities such as Tulelake, Weed, Fort Jones, Mt Shasta, Dorris, and the list of small city goes on. Jeremy Morris has worked diligently with all the people in charge of overseeing the grants for the small cities. In fact Jeremy Morris and Jim Cook, along with Brett Nystrom are working on the Wastewater project for the city of Tulelake. Over the past several years getting it up and running. Jeremy, Brett and Jim all make a good team of organizers that are getting the job done for the City of Tulelake. They have been finding the grants to complete the much-needed projects around Tulelake that cost the Tulelake citizens nothing out of their pockets. The City of Tulelake reaps the benefits from the projects and so do the local business.

The grant for this project was $625,000.00 with up to $50,000 of the grant money going to Adkins Engineering. $495,945.49 is the contract bid from Rocky Mountain Construction with a reserve of $79,054.51 left for changes that may increase the project price (Any foreseen problems that may arise)

A final note: catch operator Josh Crews, traffic controller Anita and foreman Bob Crawford are some of the great examples of the people that are working on this project and are very interested in what they are doing to help it to come to its competition for the City of Tulelake, CA and the other projects they are involved with Rocky Mountain Construction and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
