4th of July is around the corner- Article

Tulelake, CA— The 4th of July will be here before we know it. If we blink and open our eyes it could be right in front of us. Not as quick as I just mentioned but it will be here quick enough. The first of the summer holidays right after school lets out for summer vacation.

Every year the tri-cities Merrill OR, Malin OR and Tulelake, CA alternate each year as to which city holds the 4th of July fireworks celebration. This year it is Tulelake, CA turn and the hat needs to be passed around to help pay the cost of fireworks in the community.

When it is Tulelake, CA’s turn someone is designated to be the person who goes to the Tulelake City Council and asks for a donation towards the fireworks and what the city does give, it still does not cover the entire cost of putting on the fireworks display for everyone to enjoy.

This year it seems the task was left to Dave Dillabo the manager of the Tulelake Butte Valley Fair Grounds asked for donations from the City of Tulelake for the Fireworks show in the planning for all to enjoy, on the 4th of July. This year hosted at the Tulelake Fairgrounds. The cost is in the neighborhood of $10,500 and $500.00 for entertainment for the program for the Fireworks show at the Fairgrounds in Tulelake on state owned property, but in the city limits of Tulelake, CA.

The grandstand will be much like the regular Tulelake Butte Valley Fair Grounds and the admission will be "pay what you can to enter." Which the donations help to offset the expense, but in no way can it cover it all without more help from the business community in Tulelake and the surrounding areas.

Years back from what I am told, all the local businesses got together and pitched in a portion of their share to help the cost of putting on the firework show. After all, people come from all around the area and spend money in the local businesses without naming any one particular business that can and I am sure benefits from the $2,000.00 the city of Tulelake donates to the firework show on July 4th each year.

Also coming in the month of May, as a reminder, on the 24th of May to be exact, the Northern California Cycle Challenge goes through Tulelake. Which consist also with more tourism for the Lava Beds, and the entire Klamath area from Klamath Falls, Merrill, and Malin, OR to Newell, Canby, and Alturas in Modoc County to Newell, Tulelake and Dorris in Siskiyou. I am sure even folks from Yreka, CA the largest city in Siskiyou County will come down and join in on the activities and entertainment, along with the great RV camping at the fairgrounds that is very inexpensive compared to the others in the area.

The RV Park at the fairgrounds is a very nice place to find a spot with all the green grass and some shade trees. All the other attractions being planned for this event coming our way on May 24th, 2014 in the Tulelake area of Northern California and South Eastern Oregon.

Then the final thing for Dave Dillbo to accomplish was getting the permit for the 2014 Fair Parade, starting at noon on Saturday, September 6, 2014 on Main Street, the annual event for Tulelake, CA. So be sure and come and join in all the events coming up in the near future; starting with the May 24th Northern California Cycle Challenge event. Then, onto the 4th of July celebrations to end it with the annual Tulelake Butte Valley Fair starting the first week after Labor Day weekend Thursday September 4th and Friday September 5th with the parade on Saturday, September 6, and the Tulelake Butte Valley Fair ending on Sunday September 7, 2014.

If YOU or your business would like to donate to the 4th of July fireworks fund contact Dave Dillbo at (530) 667-5312 or visit Tulelake Butte Valley Fair Grounds web site for contact information.
