Tulelake to Yreka Blog on April 7, 2014 (Part One)

I tried to leave for my court appearance on my trip back to Yreka on Apr 8th at 8:30 AM, on Saturday the 5th of April. It just wasn’t meant to be for me to leave then.

On Saturday I got a ride to 161 near the Westside Market on the corner of Millard Road down from the Westside Market. I even left my stuff on the corner of the road by the stop sign and went to the Market twice and did not have to worry about anyone bothering it. As there was no one around to be concerned with it. As there was not in the way of traffic out there, that day.

After about 4.5 hours and as the sun was going down and darkness was approaching. I figured I might as well go back home, as no one will pick a person up after it gets dark. That is when you find a place to camp for the night. However, I was only 8 miles from being at home. So, I called the person who gave me a ride out there in the first place to see if they could come back out and give me a ride back home. And they did. I went back home and that way I could get some more work done that I wanted to do. Which, I did do.

The next day Sunday, I was in panic mode and needed to find a ride. I have even put an ad on Cregs list in the need a ride section. I really wanted to go to church at the Decision Life Church by the KFC, but that was not going to happen now. I needed to find someone to give me a ride at least to Dorris. One person offered a ride, but I needed to pay $20.00 for the gas. But I did not have any cash at the time as my new bank card was not working right yet. I called or talked to everyone I could think of it to see about getting a ride, with no luck. I could not let my pride stand in my way, as I needed to get to Yreka by 8:30 AM on April 8, 2014, rain or shine.

As time went on another friend of mine who was on vacation returned home and offered to take me on Monday because she had to go to Klamath Falls at noon on some personal business. She offered to take me and drop me off at Hwy 97 on her way to Klamath Falls. That sounded like a much better idea, because it was going to be around 5:30 PM before they could give me a ride to Dorris and by the time they did it, it would be getting dark too. I would then get stuck in Dorris camping out for the night and I did not want to do that. Not that I don’t like Dorris, I just did not want to wait the time, if I stayed home another night I could get even more work done, that is what I was wanting to do all along.

On Monday my friend picked me up with all of my stuff and she gave me a ride to Hwy 97. She dropped me off and I then crossed the highway to the other side and began walking towards the mileage sign on the highway. As I was beginning in that direction a Man and his son who had sold me my TV cabinet from the New Market. They picked me up on their way to Dorris.

After they dropped me off, I headed to the Dorris Market to get some things and while there I ran across the UPS driver from Tulelake and mentioned to him I was heading to Yreka.

I bought what I needed and began to walk through the town of Dorris, CA past the bug station. Where I stopped and let them know I did not have any fruits or vegetables in my stuff. Then headed to the first mileage sign and sat there for close to two hours before starting to walk towards McDowell. Nine mile from where I was sitting. I could no longer just sit and wait for a ride anymore, I had to do something.

So with everything in tow and my sign for “Weed” on a white board, after I decided to change the sign from Yreka to Weed. It was facing in the direction of the on coming traffic for the drivers to see my sign as I kept moving forward by walking and taking a break here and there. I felt I had a better chance to get to Weed, where I could catch the Stage Bus to Yreka for $4.00.

I have walked all over Yreka pushing a shopping cart, I could walk to the next town and see if my chances for a ride might be better there. I was almost there when a person picked me up with the same name as me. His name was James and he lives in Keno, OR. Which is just north of Dorris on Hwy 97 in Oregon.

With James' help by picking me up and giving me a ride I made it to Weed just in time. As the last Stage bus for Yreka was at 7:12 PM and it was now 6:40 PM and I had to find the bus stop for the Stage Bus to catch it for Yreka. Come to find out the bus stop was in front of city hall. Good thing I had been to Weed before, as I knew where city hall was from on the way back last time where I had to spend the night in Weed before getting a ride the next day.

To pass the time I called everyone I felt I needed to, to let them know that I made it to Weed and I would be catching the bus at 7:12 PM for Yreka shortly. I let them know that I had made it more or less.

The Stage bus arrived a little bit past 7:12 PM, but not by much. I boarded with all three of my bags. Paid my $4.00, than sat down and was breathing a sigh of relieve for the first time in days knowing I was going to make it to Yreka on time for my court appearance on Tuesday morning.

I needed to get a new pair of shoes as the ones I have been warring have holes in them and the little rocks kept getting inside the shoes. It made it hard to walk that way; especially with all the stuff I was caring with me to Yreka.

I made it to Wal-Mark and bought a new pair of shoes. I wanted to get a hair cut, but they were closed. Oh, well. Maybe next time, as it would be too late to try and do it before court in the morning. I then made my way to the Chevron, letting Jim know I was back for a few days, and after borrowing a little cart from the dollar store for my stuff. As the Wal-Mart carts are too big for me. I really like the little Rite Aide carts, plus they are blue and green is not one of my favorite colors.

I switched carts at Rite aide and headed to the Chevron Station for a cup of coffee before I headed to the place I had in mind to sleep for the night. Which is on the north side of town.

After sitting for a bit with my coffee and resting from all the walking I had done through-out the day. I headed to my sleeping spot and there I was, until after I woke up in the morning on Tuesday April 8, 2014 for my court appearance and where I headed that way to see Randy first, then go inside the court house with all my stuff. And leave the cart with Randy with a sign on it, "Please do not take. In court house."
