Tulelake, CA— Home again from my unplanned mini-vacation
I will not go in to the details of why I was arrested again, except to say it has something to do with a restraining order that is in legation in the court to go to trial soon. The facts will speak for themselves, as the truth always wins in the end, the way I always believe, always have and always will. Karma has a way of doing that for you, those of us who truly believe in the power of Karma. We will see what happens when that time comes.
I was booked and released on June 3, 2014 for the second time, like back on February 22, 2014. I only had a pair of genes and T-shirt this time. Last time I at least had my News Staff shirt and a pair of running pants under my genes. Good thing it was a little warmer than it was in February the first time I was arrested, which was very cold and I mean cold on the streets in Yreka with no where to go at that time, the same as this time.
Well, after I was released, it looked like it was going to be another night spent sleeping in the Siskiyou County Jail lobby again. I do not like to bother people, so I do not ask or call anyone to come and pick me up. Plus the fact that it is more interesting for me to meet new people on the road. Even when it takes longer than it should, but there is never any guarantee you will get a ride or picked up when you are hitch hiking.
At least I was not carrying three pieces of luggage to tote around like the last three trips before. However, this trip was like the first one back in February where I had no jacket, as it was still very chilly at night in Yreka, CA. After I was released I figured the Siskiyou County Jail lobby was going to be where I was going to sleep or end up that night. I walked to the Lane Street House first after leaving the Siskiyou County Jail lobby as the last time and night I was in Yreka I ha slept there. I caught up with the person I know who was staying there, but it seems there was no room at the Inn, as I was not invited to stay either. Since that was no longer an option, I figured I could try and meet up with some other friends of mine that I have not heard from since last month. Their phone number still says that they are not available, not even able to leave a voice mail for them.
The last I recall they were staying at Motel 6 in Yreka. I figured I would walk from downtown Yreka to Motel 6 two miles one-way on the other side of Yreka by the Black Bear Dinner. They were nowhere to be found. I headed to McDonald's for something to eat, at least this time I had some money in my pocket and bank account, compared to February, when I none at all with me or in the bank that time.
While at McDonald's there was a young man where later I would learn was 30 years old and he was short about a dollar for his meal. I gave him a dollar so he could get a hamburger. Where we both sat at a booth after getting our food. He was real hungry as I am a slow eater and he ate what I had not got to of my hamburger. I wasn't that hungry anyway, even though it was rude. Oh, well. He was telling me at first that he needed to go to Weed, CA as he had a room at Motel there, his first story of the evening there but he had to get there first. Then he wanted to know if I wanted to play a game of pool and he mentioned something about he knew where we could go play a game. Which led to one place to the other, after stopping in at Jollies. I am not a bar person and never have been. But I went anyway. Knowing he did not have any money I bought us both a drink and I needed one at the point. I gave the waitress a tip as it was a $10.00 minimum. I even asked her for a pen and some paper so I could give her my details about Tulelake News and to take a few pages with me in case I might need them later, along with the pen. We didn’t stay there very long after we changed his change into some quarters he needed and we headed further downtown towards Miner Street. But I was not feeling comfortable with the situation and the idea was to find a place to sleep, not stay up all night and party. Besides he did not have any money and it would had fell on me. Spending money was not in my plans for this unplanned vacation to Yreka, again. Where now I can not get the lap top I was planning on buying this month due to this unexpected trip. I need a lap top so that when I do travel I will have a way to continue to write my stories on my road trips. It will happen someday, but this unplanned trip took care of that for this month, as it is not going to happen this month, that is for sure. I felt it might be best now to head once again head to the Siskiyou County Jail lobby and just sleep there for the night and deal with it.
In the morning I knew I could get some help on finding a jacket at the Yreka Community Resource Center. And if need be, buy one at the Goodwill or Wal-Mart, if I could not find one any other way. In the mean time I kicked back on the uncomfortable chair in the lobby, they were not designed for sleeping and sometimes not even sitting. I had been there for a bit when a young man came in with his bicycle. He looked much older than he actually was. I asked him his name the way we normally do when we greet someone for the first time and when he got to his age I said. “What?” He said his name was Zack and that he was 15 years old. "Oh, My" as I thought to myself. What could have happened to lead a 15 year old to come for shelter in a County Jail Lobby like me? At least Zack had his bike. so he did not have to walk around town. Zack explained to me that he and his father had had a disagreement and that after they argued; his father kicked him out of the house where Zack lived.
When Zack came in I was asleep, (if you can call it that) when he came through the doors. I suggested for Zack to lay behind the one set of chairs in the lobby that are placed in a semi circle after we finished with the pleasantries of our introductions to one another. I slept there several times in the Siskiyou County Jail lobby on my other trips to Yreka, CA with my blanket and pillow on those trips when I was prepared for the trips, not like this time where like the first time, I only had what I was arrested having with me. As the time pasted and the sun was coming up and dawn was nearing and as it was getting lighter all around now outside as well as in the Siskiyou County Jail lobby. Zack had no problem sleeping but I was unable to, as I tried closing my eyes several times, but I was to wound up to fall asleep. And as a light sleeper that I am I would wake up if someone came in and tried to take Zack’s bike while he was sleeping, so I was keeping an eye on his bike so the young man could get some sleep and then go about his day after he woke up. Around 7 AM we both woke up and after a little while of a short conversation we both then left at the same time. Zack went on his way to school on his bike and I headed to the Chevron Station for a much needed cup of coffee to try and wake up and figure out what direction and where I was going to from there and what I needed to do to get there.
