New Direction for the City of Tulelake, we now have a new Mayor

Tulelake, CA— A new direction for the City of Tulelake

Just as in life we grow up and move on with our lives or when a loved one passes on. Times change and people change as we move forward into the new direction for the city of Tulelake.

Not saying things will change but after a recall of a mayor that put supporters on both sides against each other. Where now from the results it can be said we have a very divided city. With only 50% supporting the direction the mayor was leading us and the other 50% not supporting the direction the mayor was leading us in.

Randy Darrow did the most honorable thing a person in his position might do. It was his choice, on his own, and a surprise to most people, including myself, as it was the last thing I thought or would happen, after I left the meeting early; due to spending last weekend in Yreka, meeting new people from all walks of life there.

I figured according to the agenda that I could leave right after the city council went into closed session and that I could and can listen to the meeting later on a different day. I figured I could write about if there was anything that the community of Tulelake needed to know. It was also nice to see new people at the meeting. It is always nice to have other people in the community take time to come to city council meetings. The hardest thing for some people to understand, as once you enter those doors and take a seat, there is no right to privacy, because it is a public forum, no matter how old you are, younger or older. But it is nice to see new faces in the crowd.

I called Randy on the phone and let him know how surprised I was hear about the changing of Mayors' and with him stepping down, but still being a council member, until his seat comes up for election in 2016. Which gives Randy some time to reflect what his future is going to be, come 2016. Where he can run again for council member of Tulelake. In that respect, Randy is not going anywhere any time soon. Randy feels he is not a quitter and will move on right now in the position as a Tulelake Council member and assist the new Mayor and see where Mayor, Tom Cordonier may leads us in Tulelake, CA. .

The way Randy looks at his past 16 years on the city council of Tulelake and his past 8 years as Mayor and now in Randy Darrow's own words, “It’s been a privilege to serve the community of Tulelake as Mayor. I cherish the privilege to continue to serve the community as a Tulelake City Council member”.

When I caught up with Tom Cordonier the new mayor of Tulelake. The first thing he wanted me to know was that he wanted it to be known that he wanted to Thank Randy Darrow for all his past service for the last 8 years of Tulelake, CA. “It is also an honor to now have the opportunity to serve as Tulelake’s Newest Mayor for all citizens of Tulelake, CA.”

When I spoke with Pastor Bob Hughbanks the new kid on the block, as he likes to refer himself as being, as the most recently elected Tulelake City Council Member. Pastor Bob Hughbanks feels deep in his heart that what Randy Darrow has decided to do by stepping aside. Where he feels Randy Darrow has a lot of “Integrity, Honor and Courage” for making the choice to pass the gavel to Tom Cordoneir to lead Tulelake as Mayor.

Like most of the rest of us this choice by Randy Darrow caught many of us by surprise, myself include. As it was not something that even crossed my mind or I had even thought would happen or something Randy Darrow would do. But Randy Darrow also felt is was time to move on and right now that would be the best thing to do for the entire community of Tulelake to heal some of the wounds on both sides of the recent recall in Tulelake, CA.

Like with Pastor Bob Hughbanks, Randy Darrow stepping aside as Mayor has caught not Just Bob and I but I am sure many others who were present at the Tulelake City Council Meeting on June 16, 2014 but many others now in the entire community of Tulelake, CA.

God speed to both the past and present Mayor and now Pastor Bob Hughbanks, as the next Mayor in waiting as both Dar Carroll and Jerry King have no interest in being Mayor Pro Temp. Both may or may not run for re-election in the November General Election on November 4, 2014 for their present council member seat.

Congratulations go to both the new Mayor, Tom Cordonier and Pro Temp Mayor, Pastor Bob Hughbanks. Best of luck to Randy Darrow as he continues on a Tulelake City Council member with the remainder of his 2012 term.
