Tulelake, CA— You get what you ask for
The other day I was in deep thought after having a great Christmas with friends. I decided as much as I care about my friends that I needed to do something different with my life. Not that I don’t enjoy being around them because I do. It is just for me I don’t have the interests in some of same things they do.
They enjoy fishing and hunting that is why they are here. Well, some of them, not all of them. Some of them are here because that is what their spouses like to do. So they tolerate this area. Where people are cliquish in the respect if you were not born here then you are an outsider.
The majority of the people who live here are related some way or the other to each other. They do not want to see change and are unwilling to have it any other way. You have the one group that want it their way or the highway. Then you have yet another group that is so far into the drug culture half the time they do not know what day it is. They just know they need to work on getting their fix for the day.
Then you have another group that does not want anyone to find out what they are doing and as long as they have law enforcement on their side looking the other way they are happy and contending doing exactly what they are doing, “nothing” with their lives.
People over the years have come here and bought business, farms and ranches to only be shunned by those who want nothing to change from the world they live in. So as time went on they too packed up and left.
This is a great area for visiting the lava beds, hunting and fishing, just don’t plan on thinking about ever moving here to live, as this is not a very outsider friendly place.
For all that I have been through trying to make a difference has been a complete waste of my time. I had great plans on what I wanted to work towards to happen and bring life back into this nowhere town.
Over the years I have worked hard to try and take pictures of interest of some of the places around the area that I have an entire picture library of buildings and streets. I have even written stories about the area, not any more. I can do that any where about anywhere I live.
You see I no longer have to print the news as I am known far and wide around the world by the articles and stories I do write, even those stories I write when I am visiting other places. In fact I am only a couple of hundred hits away from 27,000 hits in a little over a year.
So why do I need to keep wasting my time here when there are bigger and better places that will welcome me with open arms, compared to closed ones I have received here.
As soon as I button up a few loose ends I am moving on to bigger and better horizons. I will not be leaving anyone behind, as they will be able to go with me through my new adventures and those who have already been here with me nothing will change for them, except where I live.
They will still be with me every day as I am with them by use of the Internet. Some of them I still know in real life and some of them I have met on account of the Internet.
Looking forward to my change of scenery and hopefully a much warmer place to live. In what little time I have left and to do it in for a better life than the one I am living here.
