The time comes when we sometimes have to close one chapter in our life and move on to another one. My grandmother was killed in a deer hunting accident in 1938 at Timber Mountain. My Mom was 14 years old and her brother was 11 years old. My Mom had dementia and we found a place to live in the goose in Newell, CA in late 2002. We lived there for two years and moved to B street in Tulelake from January 2004 to October 2005. We moved to Alturas so I could be a substitute teacher, but they had to call me the day before so I could find someone to watch my Mom on those days.
After my Mom passed away in February 2007 I moved to Redding until I came back to Tulelake in late July 2008 and rented a one bedroom trailer until I moved to the low income apartments in 2010. My Moms last wish was to find her mothers grave and put a marker on it. My grandmother is buried in Mt. Laki and my Mom is buried in Eternal Hills in Klamath Falls, OR. As a good son I found my grandmothers grave and put a marker on it. I also took care of my Mom until the end of her life in 2007.
February 2010 I started the newspaper I called Tulelake/Newell Times known as TNT. I changed the name to Tulelake New Times still keeping the TNT. I started a blog but stopped writing stories for a while. As time passed I signed up for facebook and used the handle Tulelake New Times and James Garland where I met people who friended me and me them. So of them I knew in real life and others became my friend and they have never met me in real life.
I started the news again and changed the name to just Tulelake News. If a person was to do a web search using Tulelake, a lot of my stories I have written and the pictures I have taken of the area will show up with links to them. During this time I have met a lot of people who know me and I know them. I have spent about 13 years in this area from Newell, Tulelake to Alturas. There have been some very nice people and not so nice people that I have met over the years who live her in the Tulelake area.
But it is now time to close this chapter and move on to a whole new adventure thousands of miles away in the Pacific Ocean on the Big Island in Hawaii. Where I can write stories from there, along with taking pictures to share on facebook and on my blog. It is my hope that I can find a place to live before I leave or soon after. As I do not have much to go with, I only hope it is enough to help me find a place as soon as I can. The plan is then as soon as I can to ship over the boxes I have left once I get settle there.
I am going to miss all the friends I have made in Tulelake but most of them will not be too far as they can read what I write or post on my blog and facebook. I am also going to miss my friends I haven't seen in years and who do not live in Tulelake, but they too will be able to keep in touch by way of facebook. Well this chapter is closing to make way for a new one in a place I have never been before.
Aloha!
