Culture shock

This is going to be a whole new experience on how to do things. Like how garbage is hauled away for starters. You take it to a transfer station and then the state pays for it to be hauled away by use of state taxes. Then, there is water where you can't drink the water from the tap as it is not clean enough. Even flushing the toilet is a new experience. You have to get water at the fresh water stations when in Kona or the other water stations between Kona and Kove, "Hawaiian Ocean View Estates". Which is located out in the county. There are two markets and an Ace Hardware store and the post office and other small businesses about a three mile walk, one way.

Yesterday started out by giving a ride to one of the neighbors to the Airport. Where they were flying to Anchorage, Alaska. They have a home here and come here once in a while to stay in their house. From there I went to the beach area where Dan, my landlord works patrolling the beach in a camp grounds. And one of my roommates Steve works there too once in a while.

It gave me a chance to take lots of pictures that I am posting on facebook. I took about 40 pictures to share about yesterdays experience on the beach. It was not what I expected. In fact, none of this is what I expected when I began this adventure here. It rained some of the time at the beach and I got soak and wet. I wasn't alone as Steve's girlfriend Maria was there with her dog Zero. It was nice as I was not completely alone. We even had a picnic from the stuff she had and the stuff I had. We drove to the store and picked up a few more things to complement what we did have.

I have to figure out how I am going to get things done as I am the only one of my roommates without any kind of transportation. Last but not least I lost a lens from my glasses and now I have to figure out how to get a new pair of glasses. That's is going to be a task, along with everything else I have to adjusted to by living on the Big Island in Hawaii.

God bless and keep me in your prayers James Garland of Hove, HI
