It was an interesting trip to my new home in Hawaii. It took two flights to get here. The first flight from Portland to San Francisco and where I met Trish, who lives in Portland and she was flying to see her Dad, who lives in San Francisco for his birthday. She and I spent time together as we waited for her to catch her bus and I waited for my next flight to Kona. The first flight was the first time I had to go through the security check points, as the last flight I was on was in 1997 when I flew back from South Korea and landed in Pacifica for a while.
On the approach to land in San Francisco, the first landing was aborted due to the another slow plane on the runway. That was the first time that has ever happened to me. Trish however said it had happened to her many times on the flights she has taken. But it sure did not help my nerves, as I was already nervous enough about what was in front of me and finding a place to live in Hawaii. After Trish left on the bus I went through security again to get ready to board my next flight that would take me to Kona.
While waiting for my next flight I sent Trish an email on my lap top in the boarding area. It was the first time I had used it on the entire trip in the airport. It was inside the brief case and it was hard to get in and out so I didn't want to mess with it much while I was at the airport. The next part of the trip from San Francisco to Kona was the longest part. It was a flight of 4 hours and 50 minutes, where the first leg of the journey was an hour and 50 minutes, give or take. The second part being the part where I had no idea where I would end up or if I would be homeless.
After I landed I called Dan, the person who I was going to rent a room from. He came and picked me up and then we made arrangements for me to pay first and last months rent and a small deposit. I slept in my new room that I rented and unpacked some of my stuff and met most of the new roommates that I will be sharing space with. It is going to be interesting as I begin this new adventure of writing stories about my new life on the big island in Hawaii.
