Jefferson: “And were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter.”
Klamath Falls, OR—— Have we come to the point that a president thinks the media is the enemy of American people? Which could not be further from the truth. What it says is we have a president who wants to be a dictator. Even his followers believe every word he says and that is dangerous in a republic. We do not have a king, less well someone who wants to be a dictator. When a president speaks and makes comments they need to be truthful and honest. Not made up nonsense like the most recent with the Sweden situation claiming there were terror attacks in that country.
When someone like Mike Wallace from Fox News makes comments such as: “We can take criticism, but to say we're the enemy of the American people, it really crosses an important line,” and "Lord knows, Barack Obama criticized Fox News. If Donald Trump wants to criticize the New York Times, that’s fine. But it’s different from saying that we are an enemy of the American people. That’s a different thing.”
Wallace finished with a word of warning to those watching who might agree with Trump because he happened to be a president who shared their views.
“And I know there are a lot of [Fox News] listeners out there who are going to reflexively take Donald Trump’s side on this,” he added. “It’s a different thing when it’s a president — because if it’s a president you like trying to talk about the press being the enemy of the people, then it’s going to be a president you don’t like saying the same thing. And that’s very dangerous.”
“You don’t get to tell us what to do any more than Barack Obama did,” Wallace said.
On Sunday, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said he did not have any issues with the press and did not see the media as the enemy.
In an interview on NBC's “Meet the Press” that aired Sunday, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said making moves to shut down a free press was “how dictators get started.”
“When you look at history, the first thing that dictators do is shut down the press..."
It is dangerous to have a president claim that the media is the enemy of the American people, and then have his supporters attack the media violently in-order to follow through with this rhetoric coming from this president.
President's need to be telling the American people the truth and when they don't, then it is the job of the media to set the record straight with the true facts, not made up or falsehoods by a president. In other words; having a president wanting the American people to only believe what he says as being the truth, without any question to his statements or claims.
The facts are the facts, and the facts don't lie. When a president starts stating that what he says is the truth and what the media says is lie and the media is the enemy of the American people, the opposite becomes the truth and what the president says is a lie and he then becomes the enemy of the American people.
