Trump is Commercializing the State of the Union

Klamath Falls, OR— Donald Trump Is Monetizing The State Of The Union, Selling Mentions Of Donors’ Names During Speech.

Donald Trump is monetizing the State of the Union address, offering donors a chance to have their names displayed during the speech, turning a solemn and dignified occasion into a cash-grab for his 2020 election campaign.

As the Washington Post reports, supporters of the 45th president can kick in a few bucks for his re-election campaign (a minimum $35 donation, according to the website), and in exchange, the donor’s name will be displayed for everyone to see during the speech. Everyone, that is, who is watching the live stream of the State of the Union address on Trump’s website and not on, say, CNN or MSNBC.

President Trump's re-election campaign will cash in on the State of the Union address Tuesday night with a fundraising pitch: Send us at least $35, and we'll scroll your name during a live stream of the president's speech.

The fundraising technique is raising eyebrows from ethics watchdogs, who say the unprecedented attempt to raise money off an official White House event crosses a line. “Donald Trump is commercializing and corrupting yet another national institution, making this just the latest disgraceful degradation by Trump of the presidency and our public institutions," said Robert Weissman, president, Public Citizen.

"I have never heard of anything like this," said Fred Wertheimer, president of the organization Democracy 21. "It is a no class, money-grubbing misuse of the State of the Union address that is way beneath the dignity of the presidency and the occasion."

In a solicitation, the Trump campaign asks supporters to "make a special State of the Union contribution to have your name broadcast on the Official Donald J. Trump for President Livestream."

Suggested contributions range from $35 to $2,700.

"It’s not about just one of us," the fundraising pitch says. "It’s about ALL of us. Which is why your name deserves to be displayed during Tuesday night’s speech."

But Weissman said that the Trump campaign could use the live feed to promote more transparency in its campaign. "If Trump is going to do this, we at least should have truth in advertising: ‘This presidency is brought to you by Goldman Sachs, Dow Chemical, Koch Industries and coal baron Robert Murray."

Will President Trump Display the Names of Campaign Donors During the State of the Union?

State of the Union address 9:00 p.m. EST live

Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018- President Trump delivers the State of the Union address, per mandate of the U.S. Constitution.

If you go to their website to watch, the idiots can't even spell Tuesday correctly.

"Tuessday, Jan. 30, 2018- President Trump delivers the State of the Union address, per mandate of the U.S. Constitution."

Only the fools that keep supporting Trump would make donations to see their names scrolled during the speech.

Shamefull to Commercialize the State of the Union.
