Watch Stephen Colbert's full unedited interview with former FBI Director and 'A Higher Loyalty' author James Comey.
Klamath Falls, OR— Former FBI director James Comey on Tuesday night mocked President Trump for the president's tweets attacking him.
"He's tweeted at me probably 50 times," Comey told Stephen Colbert during the late-night show.
"I've been gone for a year, I'm like the breakup he can't get over. He wakes up in the morning ... I'm out there living my best life, he wakes up in the morning and tweets at me."
During an interview that aired Sunday night, Comey said there's "certainly some evidence" Trump obstructed justice when he asked about the investigation into his former national security adviser Michael Flynn.
Comey also said during the interview that aired Sunday he thinks it's possible Trump is compromised by Russia.
Trump says he DIDN'T fire 'slippery' Comey over Russia investigation and blasts him as 'the worst FBI Director in history'
Donald Trump tweeted that he didn't fire FBI Director James Comey over the Russia probe
He told NBC days after the firing that when he fired Comey he said to himself 'this Russia thing' is a 'made up story'
Donald Trump went after former FBI Director James Comey with his latest insult and a new version of why he fired him that differs from one he gave last year.
Trump stated directly on Twitter Wednesday that he didn't fire Comey because of the swirling Russia probe that has since gone on to ensnare key members of campaign and his inner circle.
'Slippery James Comey, the worst FBI Director in history, was not fired because of the phony Russia investigation where, by the way, there was NO COLLUSION (except by the Dems)!' Trump wrote, picking up an insult he rolled out over the weekend.
His latest take is contradicted by what Trump told NBC's Lester Holt immediately after the firing.
'In fact, when I decided to just do it, I said to myself, I said, 'You know, this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made up story,' Trump told NBC.
That was a departure from the initial official rationale for the firing: that Comey was sacked due to his handling of the Clinton investigation. The White House furnished letters from Attorney General Jeff Sessions and now deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein outlining Comey's conduct in the Clinton probe at the time.
Trump has been hitting at Comey as the former law enforcement official continues to promote his book, 'A Higher Loyalty,' where he compares Trump to a mob boss.
He writes that Trump told him the Russia investigation was a 'cloud' on his presidency, and asked him if we could 'lift the cloud.'
Comey writes that Trump told him during a one-on-one meeting he handled the Clinton email investigation 'honorably.'
He also describes a dinner with Trump where the president gave his view of the email probe.
A day earlier, he tweeted: 'Slippery James Comey, a man who always ends up badly and out of whack (he is not smart!), will go down as the WORST FBI Director in history, by far!'
Trump also disputes Comey's claim, based on memos he took of coversations with Trump, that the president asked for his loyalty.
In an NBC News exclusive interview, President Trump revealed to Lester Holt that he was preparing to fire FBI Director James Comey regardless of recommendations from the attorney general and deputy attorney general.
'I never asked Comey for Personal Loyalty. I hardly even knew this guy. Just another of his many lies. His 'memos' are self serving and FAKE!'
The only thing that is FAKE is a FAKE President that keeps telling FAKE stories. Talk about FAKE News Trump takes the prize.
