Spring Fling, 2018 dinner for democratic candidates in Klamath Falls, OR

Klamath Falls, OR— Many of the local people of Klamath Falls, OR spent their evening having dinner and meeting with three candidates running for office in the upcoming election on Tuesday, May 8th, 2018. It was a fundraiser being held for the KLAMATH COUNTY DEMOCRATS. It was a great opportunity to meet and greet the candidates running for office. They each took a turn speaking to the crowd gathered for dinner. The dinner was held at MC’s at 617 Main Street and consisted of Champagne, Hors D’ Oeuvres, Dessert, and a raffle was held too.

One of the first speakers was Dr. Jenni Neahring for Congress a District 2 Representative to Congress.

From the Bulletin, "Democrats have many good candidates seeking to win the May party primary and go on to challenge for the seat currently held by Rep. Greg Walden, R-Hood River." Editorial: Vote Neahring in Democratic primary for Congress. "She’s a doctor who has worked in palliative care and also as a nephrologist, which is a kidney health specialty. Neahring would make a deep contribution in Congress to any debate about health care."

It’s a choice no Oregonian should have to make, or even think about.

There are many ways we could make our health care better, cutting costs and keeping people from falling through the cracks, but there’s one clear way we could make it worse. And when Greg Walden voted and worked to abolish the Affordable Care Act, endangering the care of 450,000 Oregonians, I knew I had to do something. Dr. Jenni Neahring for Congress

"I’m running for Congress because government should make people’s lives better, not harder. Why I want to serve: So I can help government make our lives better."

"My family and I owe a huge debt to Oregon and America. In Congress, I will work every day to repay it."

Next to speak was Jim Crary for Congress "My name is Jim Crary , and I’m running to represent Oregon’s Second Congressional District. I love Oregon for so many reasons, chief among them the tenacity and enthusiasm Oregonians have for their state and country. That’s why I made Oregon my home, and that’s why I want to represent Oregon in Congress. My wife Dianna, our children, and I are proud to be part of this beautiful community. Two of my daughters, Alex and Emily, are teachers in the Ashland area. Grace is a student at the University of Oregon. David is the only member of our clan not currently in Oregon, but we can forgive him for that. Throughout the course of this campaign, I hope to meet you in person, but until then I wanted to share more about my life and how my experience has led me here."

TYT's Cenk Uygur spoke with Jim Crary, a progressive candidate running in Oregon's 2nd District, challenging Rep. Greg Walden (R).

And finally, there was Taylor Tupper running for Oregon State Representative, District 56.

#1. I know that if you are not at the table, you don’t eat. District 56, (at a minimum) needs to fill this seat with someone who has a true love and understanding of the areas cultural ties, diversities, vision, dynamics, and the challenges of this area. It must be a person with strong leadership skills and who has faith, hope, enthusiasm and extensive local knowledge. They must also have dedication and fortitude – I am that person.

#2. I am not a career politician, and readily admit to not having all the answers. However, I am confident, smart, knowledgeable, and not afraid to ask questions or seek help from others.

#3. After much consideration and prayer, I was told by an elder, “When God speaks to you, even in a whisper, you must listen.” So here I am running for office.

I will not make any rash campaign promises, but I will listen, be at the table, and will work hard to make positive decisions for our future. I strongly support equality and diversity, and have zero tolerance for racism.

I am a tribal native born in Klamath Falls, Oregon. I was raised on a ranch in the Sprague River valley and come from a long-line of cowboy and horse people. My tribal name is Lamina Wach – Thunder Horse. I am the direct descendant of some of the most powerful leaders in Modoc Indian history such as Winema, Captain Jack, Dr. Duffy, Scar Face Charley, Old Sheepy and Chief Schonchin- Treaty Signers of 1864. I am also proud of my Quechan, Czechoslovakian, Austrian, and German descent.
