Klamath County Budget Committee voted unanimously to maintain current library funding levels

Klamath County Public Meeting on Library Funding (Part One)

The Klamath County Budget Committee voted unanimously to maintain current library funding levels.

Klamath Falls, OR—The Klamath County Budget Committee voted last month without a required public hearing and the vote was void.

The committee had contemplated cutting the tax rate from $0.49 to $0.44 per $1,000 of assessed property value in light of revenue excesses.

The appropriate hearing was held Tuesday afternoon and, out of dozens of people to speak or submit written comment, all were strongly in favor of not reducing library taxes.

With a coming drought that will have an impact on tax revenue, the committee voted to maintain the $0.49 rate for the 2018-19 fiscal year.

It appears the displeasure of the Klamath County Budget Committee voting without public comment has paid dividends for the Country Library system, and the public let it be known by their comments just exactly how they felt about the Klamath County Budget Committee voting without their public comment.

The Klamath County Budget Committee has voted unanimously to maintain current library funding levels following impassioned public comment in favor of not reducing library services.
