Klamath Falls, OR— Donald Glover dazzled while hosting the Saturday, May 5, an episode of Saturday Night Live, thanks to his brazen commitment to every sketch and his duties as musical guest Childish Gambino. Plus, Stormy Daniels made a surprise appearance.
The cold open was a who’s who of Hollywood A-listers. Ben Stiller’s Michael Cohen returned to dial up everyone he could think of, giving us an abundance of high-profile cameos.
Scarlett Johansson and Jimmy Fallon appeared as Ivanka Trump and a very high-pitched Jared Kushner while Martin Short debuted his Dr. Harold Bornstein impression. Last but not least, when Cohen called Stormy Daniels to negotiate, the real Daniels answered the phone and warned Alec Baldwin’s Donald Trump, “A storm’s a coming, baby.”
Donald Glover can truly do it all.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise, but the talented Solo actor gave a winning showcase in his first turn on Saturday Night Live, pulling double duty as both host and musical guest. He was funny, confident, game for almost anything, and unafraid to inject the storied sketch show with his unique, expectation-defying, and very specific sense of humor.
Here are the highlights.
That was the best Saturday Night Live episode all season.
Watching SNL is not unlike watching a sporting event or a concert: All three are live experiences in which anything can happen, and when something magical unfolds, it becomes contagious. Donald Glover and the Not Ready For Primetime Players didn't throw a no-hitter, but they did deliver the most consistently funny and inventive episode since Martin Freeman hosted in Season 40.
Raz P. Berry (Donald Glover) catches his girl (Cecily Strong) with another man (Kenan Thompson).
