Citizens, Business Owners and Local Churches express concern about Primo’s Liquor Store coming to Tulelake

Klamath Falls, OR— Manjeet More, owner of Primo’s Liquor Barn and Food Mart in Dorris and Primos Liquor Barn & Food Mart, is seeking to expand his business to Tulelake.

At the last Tulelake City Council meeting on March 20, 2018, where this was discussed and a presentation of the new business presented to the city council and concerned citizens. The new downtown Tulelake business will be located at 398 Main St.

Following the presentation, public comment was permitted, drawing mixed reviews including some residents opposed to an expansion of liquor sales in the region. Concerns came primarily from local church members, who scoffed at the idea of another liquor store in Tulelake, joined by several non-residents as well. The business also received positive praise for those eager to see Tulelake’s downtown add new businesses and revitalize vacant buildings.

Tulelake Council took no official stance on the business, as the effort to launch has not violated any ordinances and Manjeet More has followed every permit and rule required in the current stages of the proposed business. Primo’s Liquor Barn and Food Mart in Dorris goes beyond a simple liquor store.

It operates as a hybrid business offering groceries, hot food, ice cream and a dining area. While final details of the business are still being considered, Tulelake city officials indicated the new business would likely be structured similarly to the Dorris business.

At this point in time Primo’s Liquor Barn has not opened yet and there has been no further opposition to the business being opened in the City of Tulelake.

Other than rumors pro and con for the new business coming to Tulelake, there have been no proven facts either way to stop it or to let it happen.
