Friends of the Library 14th Annual JUNE JAMBOREE June 30, 2018, at Baker's 10 Acre Railway Gardens Baker's 10 Acre Railway Gardens
Klamath Falls, OR— Last Saturday June 30, 2018, I discovered a whole new world I did not know existed in Alturas, CA. It was by pure accident that I found out about this great event that was happening in the first place. I have a friend of mine Tony Claytor who lives in Alturas and is the assistant manager of the Niles Theatre and performs in many of the great live theatre productions they put on in the Niles Theatre. Tony Claytor brought it to my attention one day when we were chatting on Facebook PM's that the Friends of the Library 14th Annual JUNE JAMBOREE June 30, 2018, in Alturas, CA was putting on their annual fundraising event.
Tony Claytor asked me during our conversation if I would be interested in checking out the event he was going to be part of doing in June? And I said, "Sure, sounds like lots of fun." So, Tony Claytor said he would pick me up a ticket for the JUNE JAMBOREE and that tickets were still available for that date. And I said, "Go for it and buy me a ticket as I would love to come down there and check it out and it would make a great story to do."
(Note: Jon Crnkovic on the train ride video above I did not intentionally leave your credit out for being the great train robber you were. It just slipped my mind at the time and I had just met you and did not recall your full name when I was recording the video. Sorry. It was just an oversight on my part at the time of the video recording posted above of the entire train ride, minus about one minute of getting the whole train ride altogether. As the camera I have ONLY takes video in 9-minute increments. )
So right away I began making plans to go by checking into renting a car first, and I also wanted to stay in the Nile Hotel, as I have always wanted to check it out and stay there, too. So I made reservations for Friday, June 29, 2018, for one night at the Niles Hotel. Then after going to the JUNE JAMBOREE Event I would head to Redding, CA and planned on doing a story about the Redding Sundial Bridge in Redding, CA, as I have another friend Mike Sheehan that works at the Redding Sundial Bridge.
While in Redding I would just stay at Motel 6 on Hilltop in Redding, CA. So the plans were being set for this working vacation road trip from Klamath Falls, OR, to Alturas, CA to Redding, CA to Medford, OR and then back home to Klamath Falls, OR from June 30 to and be back by June 2, 2018 by noon to return the rental car to Enterprise Car Rentals where they picked me up and gave me a ride to pick the rental car up at noon on Friday, June 29, 2018.
I have not been on a road trip where I was the one driving in close to 12 years. The last time I went on a road trip was when I was taking care of my mom full time in Alturas, CA in Brooks Park in 2006 to go and visit my cousin in Madres, OR, a year before my mom passed away in 2007 after she was flown to Redding, CA where she passed away in Mercy Medical Center after being transferred from Modoc Medical Center in Alturas, CA on February 21, 2007. Where my mom passed away on February 22, 2007, five days before her 83rd birthday.
This map of the railway gardens above was designed by Stephen and Cheryl Baker's son Will (a computer programmer) and his longtime friend, Dave Goldstone (an illustrator & graphic designer – www.goldstoneink.com). Each spring they update the map, and Will generously donates printed copies for all the guests attending the annual Modoc County Library June Jamboree held on their property. The June Jamboree is held the last Saturday in June each year, and the proceeds are used to defray the expenses of the Modoc County Library. This event is the only time the railway gardens are open to the general public.
I had the honor to meet Stephen Baker on Saturday, June 30th where the Bakers host an annual fundraiser called the JUNE JAMBOREE for the Friends of the Modoc County Library. The event is held the last Saturday in June, and the tickets sell out every year. I was given the opportunity before for the JUNE JAMBOREE and allowed to take pictures of my own of the scenery before the general public started showing up for their scheduled train rides on their pre-purchased tickets June 30, 2018.
Here is a video scene of the Train Robbery taken by Alissa Crnkovic of the Alturas Train Robbery at the JUNE JAMBOREE at the Baker's 10 Acre Railway Gardens in Alturas, CA.
For me it was like being at Knotts Berry Farm in Southern California, not quite, but almost. I had a great time and I sure hope people get a chance to experience for themselves for THE JUNE JAMBOREE 2019, next years event on the Baker's 10 Acre Railway Gardens in Alturas, CA.
