KLAMATH FALLS, OR—Hypocrites come in all forms and sizes (Part Two)
By this point I figured there was something wrong. So, I looked at the old church on the corner of 7th and High Streets. Did not look like anything was going on there. Then I went up to the door at 707 High Street and the door was a jar. I went inside and it looked as if there was a meeting going on and a gentleman came out. I asked if there was a Thanksgiving dinner going on? He said no. But there was a dinner at the Gospel Mission across and over the bridge at the Missions' new place. I mentioned to him I was not walking that far in this weather and that I just lived down the street. He looked at me as if I were homeless. I have seen that look before and he seemed to cop that kind of attitude that the homeless get sometimes.
How do I know this? Simple, I have been homeless several times in my lifetime and I know how it feels when people look down on you and how you are treated by some people. The fact that I was looking for a Thanksgiving dinner and the only place serving dinner for the homeless was the mission. The veterans were having a dinner but it was for other veterans and their families which I don't happen to be one. Which he also mentioned.
Well, that was it so much for Thanksgiving dinner this year. Unless I took a taxi there was no way I was going to go. I then proceeded to go to the Holiday Market since they were open on Thanksgiving day. I figured I would just get a six pack of Bud and just go back home. I don't drink very often but this was an occasion I felt like doing it. Poor me. LOL!
When I got inside and I looked at the prices between a six pack and a twelve pack I felt it was cheaper to buy the twelve pack and since at the time I did not plan on getting a taxi I would use the rest of the cash I had for the beer.
When I got to the register I had overheard the cashier complaining how if she heard another person wishing her Happy Thanksgiving she would not be too happy. Well, we all have had to work holidays and that goes without saying when it comes to the retail business and them, those are the breaks. I asked her to double bag my beer because I was walking up the hill. She said sure, no problem. She double bagged it alright. She put one bag heading one direction and the other bag heading in the other direction over the 12 pack of beer.
I was wondering why it seemed a bit weak and one corner of the bag on the bottom was tending to cut a hole in the corner of the bag as I was climbing up the hill. I then just then carried it in my arms the rest of the way as I did not want to take a chance of the one bag breaking on the way up the hill. And I did not notice how she bagged until I got home and saw what she had done. I assumed she knew what she was doing when it came to double bagging something.
That did not make me any happier as I was now in a very vile mood. I am human and have that right too. But I was looking to God and saying you know what happened here? A simple dinner and to write about it is all I wanted for Thanksgiving. I was not a happy camper. So I began moaning and groaning about it to God and asked, "Why"? I had planned it out so perfectly but God had other plans that I was not aware of at the time I was grumbling to God and questioning his reasons in anger. I very often don't lose my cool but I was losing my cool.
Then a thought occurred to me as I could not at the time understand how they could advertise in the paper about there being a dinner, that wasn't. It was beyond me at the time. So, I looked up the article again. And low and behold who made a mistake, me. I did. I got not only the year wrong but I noticed that the date was wrong for Thanksgiving day. In 2014 Thanksgiving fell on the 27th of November, not the 22nd like today in 2018.

The Klamath Falls Gospel Mission is preparing for its first Thanksgiving dinner at the new Klamath Works human services campus.
This year’s dinner takes place from noon to 1:30 p.m at the new Gospel Mission Recovery Center location, 1930 S. Sixth St. The new mission site has larger shelters for men and women, as well as an expanded dining area.
The mission often feeds anywhere between 200 and 250 people in need on Thanksgiving and Christmas, with several volunteers helping to assist with the meals that have dozens of turkeys.
The Gospel Mission Recovery Center marked its official completion just last Friday, with hundreds attending to celebrate the occasion. The Gospel Mission also received more than $110,000 in additional donations from various community groups.
The first thing I did when I got home was to get more comfortable by taking off my jeans and shoes and just run around in my underwear and socks as I am more comfortable that way at home, besides I am the only one here, so who cares unless someone knocks on the door. And if I don't know who it is I don't answer it.
I then looked up the correct date and time for the dinner at the New Gospel Mission online. Then thought again, well it was almost 1:00 PM now. And if I hurried and got dressed again I could just make it in time to have that Thanksgiving dinner and write a story about it.
I would have to call the taxi company I normally use and see if they could pick me up and get me there in time. But I used all my cash as I usually like to pay cash for my taxi's. I called the taxi company on the phone and asked if it were possible to do it? But I did not have any cash and if I could use my bank card and she said, no problem and that she had a taxi in the area that could come and pick me up. So I rushed, got dressed and out the door and I went to wait for the taxi to arrive...
