Klamath Falls First United Methodist Church Easter Dinner

KLAMATH FALLS, OR— Nobody is perfect, at least not me. And I would never claim to be that is for sure.

On Easter Sunday I had plans to go to Veterans Park to see if I could find something of interest to Video tape. There was not much going on there, but I did do a video. I have discovered so far every time I try and do a video there at the park, the sound of the wind seems to always play havoc with the sound on the video. But it is a good little camera and does pretty well in helping me to get the videos I take, to be able to post them.

On my way to Veterans Park, I came across two different people, at two different places in downtown Klamath Falls, that mentioned to me about the dinner at Klamath Falls First United Methodist Church at 5PM. I thought was a great idea so I could go there for dinner, after I did videos at Veterans Park.

After I did the videos at Veterans Park I headed to the dinner at the Klamath Falls First United Methodist Church. As I arrived, I met up with a few other homeless people I am beginning to recognize them, and know their names now. I had decided I would do a video of the dinner. I entered the dinning hall, and got in line. Then got my dinner, and found a place to sit at the back of the dinning hall. That way I would not be noticed that I was using my camera to shoot cover shots. If by chance I found someone to interview later on camera. If not, I would do the cover shots to tell a story about the dinner at Klamath Falls First United Methodist Church

For the first time, I have come across someone that believes, as I do, when it comes to feeding and housing the homeless. Or as I refer to them as the less fortunate. I loath the word "homeless", as it has such a negative connotation to it. I would rather refer to my homeless friends as being less fortunate, instead.

Vicky of the Klamath Falls First United Methodist Church seems to be down to earth, and a relaxed kind of person, and it was my pleasure to have spent time with her. She gives you a very welcoming feeling that you belong, no matter who you are at the church's dinners. Kind of how I am. As no one is better then I am, and I am no better than anyone else. No matter the status in life. As I personally know people from all walks and levels of life. And no one is better than I am, and I am no better then they are in this life.

I had a friend of mine way back decades ago in my youth share her saying with me. And it went this way. "The bigger the star the nicer they are, the smaller the star the bigger they think they are" and I have always remembered that for the longest time and share it often. But like others I have my good and bad days too as I am not perfect, and I am the first to admit it, and I am no perfectionist, either. I do the best I can with the gifts God has given to me. And I am not alone, we all have gifts that God gave us to use. Once we discover what they are, and how to use them for the benefit of others, and not for ourselves. Selfless, by always putting God first, and others in our life second, then our selves third IMO.

As in the video above Vicky and I had a nice conversation about beliefs, and helping the homeless (Less Fortunate Friends) and even those who not homeless, but are in need of coming to a dinner that helps keep them from going hungry, myself included, or being alone at home on holidays like Easter, and Christmas.

Vicky, and I believe you do not cram Jesus down the homeless (Less Fortunate Friends) throats and use the terms, "Have you ever heard of Jesus or do you know who Jesus is?" People that are homeless do not want to hear about religion.

Only by their choice, but to be used as a way to reach the homeless and try to convert them. It is not the time. The last thing a homeless person wants to hear about is Jesus and the reason why is they are saying to themselves if Jesus loved me so much then why and I homeless?

For me I also mention to my less fortunate friends, I am only one step above them. As I have a roof, and they don't, but I still go hungry or am without money and food too, sometimes. And sometimes, not too long after pay day where I am behind in my bills, and other things I need sometimes, too. Things that, I can't afford either, but with the good heartedness of others who help me with food in a neighborly way, and those like Vicky and her program that keeps me as well from going hungry too. And even money to get caught up on my electric bill as I am a month behind. Or money for the co-pay on my medications I need. Or the money for an id or driver's license that I need to get, but haven't had the time or the money to get it. So, that I can keep going on and do what I can to help others before myself, by the gifts God gave me. To be able to share with others through my articles, stories and videos, world-wide that God has given me the gifts to use with that purpose in mind. After 10 years of doing this I feel I have more than paid my dues and can no longer promote others for free anymore as I have been known to in the past. I love what I do, but it is more work, than most people even know or realize that I do on a daily basis for one person, who is trying to make a difference, one day at time.

And when I started Breakfast Friends Vet's Park during the Summer. There were no prayers before, during or after Coffee and Donuts. However, due to lack of donations had to limit the donuts. Coffee was what ever was made for that day and sometimes it had to be poured out due to not be drunk. But, when it worked out there most times was someone willing to take the left over coffee with them, rather than pour it out.

Do to legal issues and an pending court case I was no longer able spending the time doing, "Breakfast Friends Vets Park". But, the hope and plan is to maybe do it again after the court case this coming Spring and Summer, as time allows for such a venture again in Vets Park, Klamath Falls, OR.

God bless!
