KLAMATH FALLS, OR— In's and Outs of breakfast for the homeless
Over the past month I have had the opportunity to spend time on the streets with the homeless in the downtown area of Klamath Falls, OR.
In the mornings, afternoon and evening. Up and down Main street and at Vet's Park.
Most of them now I know by their first names and others by their faces, but I have spent time with each of them, some of them more than others. And they are all different coming from different backgrounds and circumstances as to why they are homeless or houseless.
They are not all the same. Some of them get along with each other and work together to help each other, and just as in life some of them just tolerated each other. And some of them like me and some of them don't, and it works both ways without naming names. But that is human nature and is normal, there is nothing unusual about it.
With the rest of us, some of us work together towards the same goals or ideals and others work against each other and us at all cost, because they want to see us fail, so they can say, "See I told you it would not happen". All while instead of working with us, they choose instead to work against us, for whatever personal reasons they have against us or what we are trying to accomplish, and succeed at where they failed at doing it, or it was not their idea, so they are against it from the get-go. But if it were their idea, they would be the first in the line leading the bandwagon.
A friend of mine once shared this with me. He said to me, "James it is the not the message but the messenger as to why things get done or they don't get done", and I have never forgotten that bit of wisdom he shared with me before he passed away a few years ago.
And the person who owns this building may not support it or the city of Klamath Falls may not support it either, for what I have in mind, and that is OK too. Where there is a will, there is always a way, as they say. I never give up. I just reorganize and come at the problem with a different angle and find a solution and solve the problem and not for the worst, but for the better, as I always look on the positive side of things in my life and everything I do. No matter what it is I am working on, or the many projects and goals I work on and towards daily. I don't sit back and think about it, or talk about it, I get out there and do it, and make it happen, and as they say also "All it takes is one person to make the difference, and I am that one person, and sometimes I am that one person leading the way to get it done, and I do in time succeed at everything I do eventually, one way or the other sooner or later.
I never quit and I never give up no matter how long it takes. And I do it my way. I don't need the support of non-profits, unless they want to donate to my projects with no strings attached, but otherwise, I don't need the kind of help they want to offer with strings attached. That's not how I do things.
I have been homeless and I feel people who have been homeless have a better understanding as to what it is they are going through. There are somewhat what I refer to as being career homeless, there is not much that can be done for them, as they will never change their lifestyle, as that is how they want to live the rest of their life, on the streets, as being houseless. Then, there are the mentally ill, drug and alcohol addicts, there are programs available and services for them.
There are also what can be referred to as transits, they travel all over the country to see the county their way, and they are only here temporarily. Then, I saved the most important to me on my list for last, not that the rest above are not important they are too, but in their own way and need the help too, sometimes, not with a handout, but a hand up for those who are homeless by no choice of their own, but uncontrollable circumstances that led them to be there and each and every homeless person has their own story to tell, if you take the time to listen and not judge them, and put them all in the same basket.
The ones I am most concerned about, are the ones that are getting the least of all the services mentioned above, and those are the down and out, who lost a job and their income and the home they once knew as home, or a roof over their heads, is all gone now and they are trying to get back on their feet. With what little hope they have left and hearing or being forced to hear about God is the last thing they want to hear. They say to themselves in their stitiuations, "If there was a God who cared about me then why am I homeless now if He loves me so much as being claimed by those forcing them to hear their verison of the "Word of God".
Most people do not realize they are ONLY one or two or even three paychecks of finding themselves in the same position, rather or not they want to believe it or not is another story and for this article I am not going to provide a link to those statistics, as most people can do that on their own, without me doing their homework for them.
Have a great day, afternoon or evening,
