KLAMATH FALLS, OR— Assumptions we all have them
What some people seem to always forget there are several categories of homelessness.
1.Transentants.
2. Career Homeless.
3. Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Addictions.
4. Those who are homeless by no fault of their own.
All homeless are not the same. Yet people seem to put them all in the same basket. And unless you get out of your car and take the time to talk to them you are just making assumptions like most other people do everyday.
Everyone makes assumptions by what they see, not what they know by taking the time to find out what the person is all about. But the simplest way is to look at a distance and make assumptions rather than taking the time to say, "hello", and find out what their story is... then you can decide if they are able bodied or not. But until then it is just an opinion with no facts to back up the opinion with as to if they are able bodied or not. But instead they just drive by and make assumptions about others they do not know and never will until they take the time and get out of their cars and find out. But that is too easy or that would take too much time out of their day to it.
Hence: That is the one of the major problems and reasons as to why Homeless people get such a bad rap. Assumptions are the easy way out. Facts take more time to get to the truth and the reason why that person who looks so well may not be as well as was assumed from a distance until you take the time to find out what their story happens to be up close.
In retail I was always taught to never make assumptions as 9 times out of 10 assumptions were not correct and were way off base and not factual as they were assumed to be.
Which can apply as well when it comes to homelessness or the homeless.
Take the time to get out of your car, say hello and find out what their story is first, before making assumptions. It is not that difficult and it will only take a few minutes of your time. Are you that busy?
And my comments are not personal.
They are for everyone who makes assumptions about the homeless from a distance, instead of up close and personal with them.
But did you take the time to talk to them, no you gave them a couple of bucks and went on your way along with your assumptions.
It is not about you or what you have or have not done, its about taking the time to find out about them, not you.
What some people seem to forget. The homeless are people too, just like you and I but are having a bad time. But until you take the time to find out what it is and why they are where they are? Giving them a few bucks does not solve the problem, only your conscience that you did this and you did that for a homeless person. So who is this about again did you say? You or them?
Lets see, I always give a few bucks to the homeless as I pass them by and I always give things to the homeless as I am good about those kinds of things. I care about them. Really?
Or is it I care about the things I do for them when ever I can and when I have the time I always give to the homeless shelters to show I care about the homeless. I care and I prove it by what I do by giving a few bucks to them or donating when ever I can or can afford to do it. But I am too busy to say hello, or get to know them as a person. I mean that would take too much of my time and I don't have time for those kinds of things. But I do give and do my part to help them. Really?
Are you sure? Once again is it about YOU or THEM?
I,I,I,I what happened to THEM?
