I have heard from a number of residents who are having difficulty choosing who to vote for in the upcoming city council election. We have a large field, and it is difficult to know where everyone stands. To help better understand each candidate, below are the questions and their answers. (Note: Order of Candidates answers are in order received. Who ever answered first got top billing)
Question 1. What do you hope to accomplish as a city council member? Phil Studenberg: I hope to continue my agenda of economic development and helping recovery from COVID. Dylan Carlson : I want refine the budget and cut taxes. Starting with the new downtown klamath falls Business tax.
Question 2. How have you already been volunteering or serving in the city? Phil Studenberg: I’ve been in council for four years. Dylan Carlson: I Volunteer at the local mma/boxing gym (weapons grade). This is the place I train and help out the younger generation of fighters.
Question 3. The city's general plan and design guidelines need to be updated regarding zoning in the commercial area. What would you suggest? What would be your recommendation to move forward on this issue? Phil Studenberg: We are updating the downtown plan and I support the proposal. I’d like to see historical preservation of classic buildings. Dylan Carlson: All for developing new commercials areas that provide jobs and new Businesses. I’m all for expansion.
Question 4. If you are not elected, what would you do to try to help work on ideas or issues that are important to you? Phil Studenberg: If I lose I’ll continue to work as a volunteer on economic issues and equity. Dylan Carlson: If not elected I will support the winner in his decisions and only voice my opinion to the City Council.
Question 5. If you are elected, how will you solicit input from areas of the city outside of where you live? Phil Studenberg: I work with county commissioners to get input from county residents. Dylan Carlson: I will listen to outside opinion to see if it will help expand the economy of Klamath falls. I will ask other city officials on how they run the city they represent.
Question 6. When you hear about something that concerns you in the city, what steps would you take to see that this concern is resolved? Phil Studenberg: I take concerns to the city manager and staff. Dylan Carlson: The first step is to bring the problem up to the city council and then find out how to fix it. Communication is key to any city council and how we can handle the issue.
