2023 Speaker of the United States House of Representatives election

An election for speaker began on January 3, 2023, at the start of the 118th Congress, two months after the 2022 elections in which Republicans gained the House with a slim majority. However, due to a division within the House Republican Conference, no candidate received a majority of the votes cast on the first several ballots, in the first multiple-ballot speaker election since 1923. The election remains ongoing and will continue until a candidate receives an absolute majority of votes cast.
