Catching a taxi in Portland, Oregon

Catching a taxi in Portland, Oregon

Finally, was off the train with my two carry On's in tow, heading to get my Check-in bag. Another piece of luggage to haul around until I get to the Motel 6 room by way of a taxi in downtown Portland.

Where I did not know my way around Portland from a person named Adam, a thing people said in my Generation and the one before mine.

TNT has arrived, now the next step is to get the luggage sent to Union Station downtown Portland.

While in the baggage claim area ran across Joe May and it looked like he met up with the person he knows in Portland on his way North to Washington State at a university there he is attending and working towards his degree in Computer Science. Which reminds I forgot to mention he could get an AA degree first then move on to getting his BA in the future and not stop going. Mentioned no matter don’t stop going until you are done.

Joe May only has one semester under his belt so to speak in my time and age that from in my generation as baby boomers. Said a little good-by to Joe May as he was hugging his girlfriend that lives in Porland. Joe May is having a layover in Porland with his girlfriend or sister giving each other hug and I didn’t want to intrude and be rude and open my mouth up and start talking. So, I mentioned for Joe May to explain who I am and what I am all about.

Now with everything I brought from this trip was now in a struggle to get the next place or destination where I could rest and catch my breath.

Next after catching my breathe I watch as each taxi is all lined and from what I heard the taxi’s are not allowed to park in front of Union Station anymore, they have to back up the line where the taxi’s used to line up.

It was time to pick the first taxi so I went up to him and said as soon as finished this smoke I will be going to Motel 6. And his response was smoking is over in the part. Not being from Portland at first, I didn’t know what he was talking about, but I sure didn’t want to ride in his taxi, that’s for sure.

So I started looking at the second taxi to see if would be my taxi when this other taxi driver asked where I was going. And when I told him Motel 6 downtown. Fifty bucks. I said what? Fifty bucks but what choice did I have I needed rest and take an easy once I checked in Motel 6 and let them know I will be a stayover for a 2nd day. I used to be a desk clerk so I know the motel jargon or lingo. I worked for Myers Motels in Redding, CA at Motel Orleans for a 48- hour shift from 6 Am Friday to 6 am Monday. On the weekends.

Then during the week, I drove a laundry truck/van M-F. I have had many different jobs in my short lifetime. Many fields of employment, plus education and life expertise like the rest of us.

Finally, I decided to go with this guy as I got it down to $25.00 plus a tip of $15.00. So, the driver helped me load all my bags and belongings. And off we went to Motel 6. All while asking me questions about why I was in Portland and why I didn’t have someone to be with to share the room with. I will leave it here for now on that subject that he was thinking I should be doing with my time in Portland.

About time as I was tired, we had arrived at Motel 6 downtown for a two day stay from Sept 15th to Sept 17 check out day. Two days to get to know a new city but on a fast track.

To be continued.
