Learning the hard way, the lesson about arrogance
Now it is time to head south back home to Klamath Falls, Oregon. Everything is packed and ready to go. Except looking back. I left a pair of sleeping pants in the bathroom, forgot to make a last look through to see if I was leaving something behind, and I just bought them for the trip. Well, there is always next month to buy a new pair, but it is not in the budget this month in-order to have just enough for the trip to Salem at the end of this month.
All checked out of 114, at Motel 6, downtown, Portland. All that is left is for the taxi to come and pick me up for my Amtrak train ride back home and all the new people on board I will by chance meet. Leaving after 2 PM in the afternoon for an approximate arrival time in Klamath Falls around or close to 10:00 PM. Thinking back on the last two days. I made quite a few new friends and acquaintances. There was one more situation that comes to mind where I feel it needs to be mentioned or explained for others to learn from.
This is where I was at as I was walking back towards Motel 6 on my next to last day there on Sept 16, 2023.
When all of sudden in the short distance I heard this yelling and screaming and someone dashing out into the middle of the street taking swings at passing cars. I stopped in my tracks and paused for a minute and having experience of being homeless on the streets in several different cities from my past.
All I had to do is get out of her line of sight until she was done having her fit of rage. A friend on the phone with me at the time who had lived in Portland, Oregan.
His suggestion was to call 911, that was the wrong thing to do as it would have brought me personally into her situation and I didn’t need to be there either. Just getting out of her line of sight was the right course of action. Hide where she could not see me, like in the picture below and just wait it out.
