Commissioner Henslee
The strategic plan is finished and we're starting to dive into the work. The Plan was heavily influenced by the people so we know we are doing the work of the people. One of the pillars in the Plan is public safety and that is something that we take very seriously. Having fair and equitable policing for every citizen in the County is high priority of the Board's and of mine. I believe we will have many conversations about lots of ideas and concepts, everyone will have a voice at the table and we will listen. We want a policy that is equitable and fundable. One of the ideas is utilizing the City of Klamath falls Police Department and we will continue to have discussions on this. There are people that are morphing that conversation into an annexation and that is not the case. The Commissioners and the City Council do not have authority to annex. Annexation would take a vote of the people.
Commissioner DeGroot
Well said, it's a resource allocation conversation and conversation of making sure we're giving every citizen fair and equitable access to those resources. It's about using the resources we are already spending in a way that provides better service. We will not have meetings next week as the Board will be attending the annual Association of Oregon Counties conference. I will be handing down the gavel of Presidency of the Association of Oregon Counties at the conference.
