Yreka, CA-- Article Log
Amby the overnight clerk at the Chevron was just as amazed as I was with what had just happened. The first thing I bought was a park of Marlbro 100's Red. I have not bought a pack of Marlbro's in years but I splurged with the windfall and luck that Brandon and his two other friends had done with the dime, nickel and four pennies that were laid heads up and for whoever picked them up, to have the luck of the Irish. I guess I did, and I am Irish as my grandmother was Barbara Irean O'Malley.
Having only 19 cents before and now $47.00 in my pocket, this indeed was a blessing. I recall I bought a dark chocolate chip cup cake, coffee and a Red Bull. I was having no luck at this time so I felt I would walk to the other end of Yreka by the McDonald's. A two mile walk from this end of town. It was now about 3:30 AM on the 25th of February.
I got to the other end by the Shell Station just around 4:00 AM and met Phil the overnight clerk. I shared with Phil about TNT and who I was. I bought another cup of coffee and headed to the off ramp. First ,
I went the wrong way. I headed up the road that goes to Etna. As I was walking I was thinking this can't be right. It was now closer to 4:15 AM now. I decided to turn around and went back to the Shell Gas Station and went inside to ask Phil where the on ramp was at for catching a ride to Tulelake and Phil said, "Down the hill." "Ah!", I said. and I headed down in that direction to the on ramp. And stood there and stood there. No traffic was going on the on ramp at that hour. Which was now around 4:50 AM now. A few cars did go by, but they did not pick me up.
By this time I gave up headed back to the Shell Station to get warmed up. And while standing there another car pulled up and the man saw my sign for Tulelake. This man gave me another $10.00. I was really raking in the cash now. That made it $57.00 now from the 19 cents Brandon and his friends laid down at the front door of the Chevron.
I tried again for a little while and decided I need to get something to eat now as I was getting hungry again so I headed to McDonald's and ordered scramble eggs from Eric, the McDonald's Fast Food service worker. I still even have the receipt that says, 5:05 AM February 25 Wednesday, 2014 for the Scramble Eggs from McDonald's in Yreka, CA.
After eating breakfast I headed back to the Shell but there was a shift change and someone by the name of Steven an older gentleman was now there as the clerk for his shift. At that point I decided I would walk the two miles back to downtown Yreka and try my luck at that end of town now that is was almost 6:30 AM on Wednesday February 25th in Yreka, CA.
