KLAMATH FALLS, OR— Happy Thanksgiving
First of all when serving others, it is not about YOU. It is about those you would like to help. And it takes work, a lot of it. You can't just sit in a park and think because you have coffee and donuts to give away that others are going to join your cause; because you happen to be an elderly woman in a wheel chair with a dog in your lap and that is all there is to it. The donations will just roll in because people will feel sorry for YOU.
It is called you have to get off your ass and do something about it, pun intended. It takes hours of preparation time to get it done. "Even if it is for just one person it is worth the time spent doing it". Sound familiar, wonder where that came from?
YOU don't name your program after yourself, and YOU don't set your hours that YOU are there to suit your schedule. Once again it is not about YOU. It's about others in need or others passing through to bring people together, and even a tourist may pass through while you are serving others. It's not about YOU. And that is where "Coffee Lady" misses the mark.
You have to try and give something, they can't get for themselves or it costs them if they do. The same people that are regulars have no problem spending money for a cup of coffee at one of the local coffee houses. Yet, when it comes time to donate to your cause. Well, you are out of luck, they are down and out. But they have no problem getting that FREE BREWED cup of coffee. Anyone can put hot water in a Thermos' and use instant coffee. It takes time to brew real coffee, and if you don't have the time to do it that way, then don't do it. Then wonder why you are not getting the donations you are expecting to get. Why? You have not put in the work it takes to do it. But you feel because you an elderly woman in a wheel chair with a dog in your lap, that's all there is to it. Peace of Cake! Right? Wrong!
And you have to set hours that are constant, and not all over the place, once again to suit your schedule, not theirs. So is it about YOU or is it about THEM? Everyday you have to spend hours preparing for the next day by shopping to replace the things that are needed. And prepare to have enough each day for those that may show up, but not to over prepare and bring more than what is needed. If you make too much coffee, it may have to be poured out. So the easy way out is to only bring hot water and that will save the expense of tossing extra coffee out that can't be given away that day. And then call it a day, YOU did your part by sitting in the park claiming you are doing a community service for others.
No, you are giving yourself a place to go because you have nothing better to do with your life. Where you could spend the time getting out in the community all over Klamath Falls passing out flyers and talking to people about your program and how you could use donations to keep it going, or start Gofund pages or donation pages on Facebook and when all else fails use some of your own funds to keep it going. But to sit in the park, day after day as an elderly woman in a wheel chair with a dog in your lap wondering why the donations are not rolling in or things are not being donated or replaced. Well, it is called work and if you can put in the time doing all that is required, then don't do it. Or if your time gets taken away by other things out of your control or for health reasons, then quit.
If you don't have the time needed to do it correctly and right, then don't do it at all. But don't blame others for YOU doing it your way and wonder why it is not working.
That's the part of the story Lyle Ahrens of KOBI-TV NBC5 / KOTI-TV NBC2 didn't tell you. And that makes Lyle Ahrens as lazy as the Coffee Lady, not wanting to do all the work that is required in serving others or telling a news story, correctly.
It's not McDonalds' or the Food give away.
Someone mentioned to me, jealous. "Jealous" of what?
Happy Thanksgiving "Coffee Lady" and "Lyle Ahrens".
You both missed the mark.
